European Markets

I am physically back from traveling Europe however my mind is still somewhere above the clouds in the French and Italian Alps. There is so much to blog about and so many great photos of the Alps and food that it will take me some time to sort through the thousands of photos I took.

Before I post about the trek my husband and I did I wanted to post about the markets I visited in Chamonix, Rome, Venice and Paris. They were all interesting in their own way, but by far the Venice Fish Market was the most impressive.

On our last day in Venice we got up really early and we spent a good part of a morning hanging out by the Rialto bridge, sipping espresso, eating croissants and browsing the interesting fish and seafood market. Because Venice is a zoo by 9am, especially near the Rialto Bridge, getting up early 7am, allowed us to have the entire Bridge to ourselves....seriously not one other person on it. We were able to walk around without crowds and enjoy a peaceful and more romantic Venice.

Tip: the cafes on the side of the Rialto Bridge near the fish market are beautiful, less touristy and much cheaper.

Venice Fish Market

(Mercato del Pesce)

The Pescheria was built in 1917 on a site where Venetians have shopped for seafood since the 14th Century. It is located on the Grande Canal near the Rialto Bridge. You can watch the barges deliver crates of fruit to the Erberia (produce market) and fish to the fish mongers.

Roasted Chicken's made for a delicious meal in our apartment.

As did these delicious creme caramel brulees.

Chamonix Market

This great market surrounded by the Mont Blanc mountain range offered cured meats, breads, olives, oils, spices as well as tons of wood working crafts.
